How To Measure
Numbers 1–8 are marked on the diagram. Shalwar and dupatta lengths are explained in the list.
- 01
Shoulder
Measured straight across the back, from the edge of one shoulder to the other.
- 02
Bust
Around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level and not pulled tight.
- 03
Waist
Around the natural waistline, which is the narrowest part above the hip.
- 04
Hip
Around the fullest part of the hips, with the tape sitting flat all the way round.
- 05
Armhole
Around the top of the arm where the sleeve is joined to the shirt.
- 06
Sleeve Length
From the shoulder edge down the arm to wherever you would like the sleeve to end.
- 07
Shirt Length
From the shoulder at the neck straight down to the length you want the shirt.
- 08
Trouser Length
From the waist down to the ankle, or to the length you normally wear.
- 09
Shalwar Length
From the waist to the bottom of the shalwar, along with the width you prefer at the ankle.
- 10
Dupatta Length
The length and width of dupatta you want, if the fabric allows it.
Taking Them Accurately
- Use a soft measuring tape, not a plastic ruler or a mobile app.
- Measure over light clothing so the tape sits close to the body.
- Keep the tape level and firm, but never pulled tight.
- It is easier and more accurate if somebody else takes the measurements for you.
- If you already have a suit that fits you well, measure that instead and tell us it is a garment measurement.
